A Penny for Your Thoughts
Project Brief
Lyn Grant approached me about interviewing her mother which resulted in this book. This is why she did it (as expressed in the foreword of the book). ‘This is a story about my mother. As told by her. It is her story, her memories. This is not about other people’s memories, for it is up to them to tell those. My mother had always shown an interest in telling and documenting her story and I had always wanted to know who my mother was before she was a mother, before I knew her. The young child, the teenager, the daughter, her family dynamics and her thoughts and hopes for the future. This is not an in depth life history of dates, places and times – it’s for others to do that, rather a collection of a life well lived.’
From the Client
Lyn Grant
“I would like to thank Simon, my dear friend of 42 years, for his thoughtful and considered manner when interviewing Mum.
He made her feel comfortable and relaxed with the interviewing process so that she felt at ease answering questions and chatting about some very personal and emotional topics that hadn’t been spoken of for many years.
Mum felt Simon was genuinely interested in her and her story and this allowed her to share tears, laughter and an honesty while telling her story.
Mum and I were very pleased with the outcome.
Thank you, Simon”
